EXPOSURE TRIANGLE

triangle.jpg

The exposure triangle is a super easy way to perfect your camera settings based on what you want to capture!

GETTING STARTED

Change your camera mode to manual (M)

This mode allows you to control your Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed!

CHOOSING PRIORITY

You now need to decide what you want to capture:

- GRAIN (ISO)

- DEPTH OF FIELD (APERTURE)

- MOTION BLUR (SHUTTER SPEED)

You will need to understand what each side of the triangle does.

Choose what you want to capture below:

To capture more/less grain you will need to modify your ISO The higher the ISO, the more grain... but a brighter image - therefore you will need to lower your shutter speed and aperture The lower the ISO, the less grain... but a darker image meaning you will need to increase your aperture or shutter speed KEEP IN MIND: A higher shutter speed = more motion blur A lower shutter speed = less motion blur A larger aperture = larger depth of field A lower aperture = smaller depth of field

To get a higher/lower depth of field you will need to modify your aperture A larger aperture = large depth of field meaning more of the background/foreground will be in focus. A smaller aperture will mean a shallow depth of field meaning less of the background/foreground will be in focus... this also means you will get a darker image - you will need to increase your shutter speed or ISO Keep in mind: - A larger ISO = more grain and a brighter image - A smaller ISO = less grain and a darker image - A larger shutter speed = More motion blur but a brighter image - A lower shutter speed = Less motion blur but a darker image
